Partnerships
Through strategic partnerships with suppliers, technology leaders,
bioengineering experts and other leading players in the biotechnology industry,
Myriant will achieve faster commercialization of its biobased processes for the
production of renewable specialty chemicals.Where appropriate, the company establishes partnerships throughout all phases of development, from R&D to commercial manufacturing.
Partnerships for R&D
The University of Florida
has licensed exclusively to Myriant microbial platform technology developed by
Professor Lonnie Ingram for the production of biobased specialty chemicals.Dr. Ingram continues to support the R&D efforts of Myriant, serving as Chief Science Advisor.
University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS)
The University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) is a federal-state-county partnership dedicated to developing knowledge in agriculture, human and natural resources, and the life sciences, and enhancing and sustaining the quality of human life by making that information accessible.
The UF/IFAS research mission is to invent, discover and develop knowledge to enhance the agriculture and natural resources of Florida. UF/IFAS has technology for the processing of cellulosic sugars (saccharification) and the metabolic conversion of those sugars into fuels and chemicals.
Partnerships for Commercial Manufacturing
Myriant recognizes the value of partnering with other firms that have developed
expertise in the production of biobased materials, both from an engineering and
operational standpoint.PURAC, the world's leading lactic acid producer, began full-scale commercial production of D(-) Lactic Acid in June 2008 using technology licensed from Myriant. We continue to work with PURAC as they expand production to meet the growing demand for high purity D(-) Lactic Acid for the production of thermally stable, biodegradable Polylactic Acid (PLA)
Uhde, a division of ThyssenKrupp AG, has constructed over 2,000 chemical, refining and other industrial plants. With direct experience in the construction of plants designed for biobased chemical production (fermentation and separation technology), Uhde is able to provide substantial process performance guarantees.
Myriant and Uhde entered into an Alliance Agreement in 2009 establishing Uhde as the exclusive provider of Engineering, Procurement, and Construction services for Myriant commercial succinic acid facilities.
