Quincy, Massachusetts – August 14, 2012 — Myriant Corporation, a global renewable chemicals company, announced today the appointment of Dr. Arne Philipp Duss as Senior Vice President of Strategy and Corporate Development. In this newly created position, Dr. Duss will be responsible for accelerating Myriant's strategic growth initiatives and creating opportunistic development opportunities that further solidify the Company's leadership position in the renewable chemicals market. Dr. Duss will report directly to Stephen J. Gatto, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.
Dr. Duss has more than 15 years of experience developing diversified growth strategies for multi-billion dollar international businesses in a diverse array of industries, including agriculture, chemical and industrial products. His expertise includes expanding businesses into global markets through acquisitions and joint ventures, devising corporate growth initiatives, and identifying and implementing operational efficiencies, all with a focus on revenue generation and value creation. Most recently, Dr. Duss was the Assistant Vice President of Strategy and Business Development for Cargill, where he developed division and business unit strategies for Cargill's trading, energy, food ingredients, animal nutrition, and animal protein businesses. Dr. Duss also led acquisition and divestiture activities, initiated and executed high-value joint ventures in international markets, as well as identified and developed new product segments with high-growth revenue potential.

Previous to his tenure at Cargill, Dr. Duss was an Associate Partner at the Monitor Group, a global professional services firm, where he was primarily responsible for developing and implementing growth strategies for the firm's chemicals and basic materials clients across the globe. Dr. Duss also served as an Associate at London-based, international strategy and consulting firm, the Mitchell Madison Group.
Dr. Duss received his Bachelor's degree with High Honors in Business Administration from Otto-Friedrich University in Germany. He received his Master's of Management with Highest Honors and a Ph.D. in Business Administration, Strategic Planning with the distinction of High Honors from ESCP Europe.
Myriant utilizes proprietary technology to provide innovative, performance-based renewable chemicals utilizing low-cost sugars. In December 2010, Myriant broke ground on its 30 million pound commercial succinic acid facility in Lake Providence, Louisiana. The company's D(-) lactic acid started production at commercial scale in June 2008 for use in polylactic acid.
